Competent authorities and consumer groups should create and strengthen appropriate institutional frameworks to ensure that activities relating to the management, collection and disposal of hazardous or toxic waste, the management of water and wastewater treatment comply with current legislation and regulations on environmental protection.
Any technology or goods, whether produced locally or imported, must be inspected, tested and measured by the relevant authorities to ensure that it is fit for consumption and complies with national and international environmental, health and safety standards.
The sale of technology or goods that have not previously met national environmental, health and safety standards is prohibited.
Any technology or product constituting a potential hazard must, as soon as this condition is identified, be immediately withdrawn from sale and returned for testing, at the expense of the manufacturer, without prejudice to any other sanctions provided for by the legislation and regulations in force.
Standards for food products, pharmaceutical products and medicines must be mandatory and comply with those set by the competent international organizations and cover chemical and biological safety.
Any consumer good or service that is dangerous to human, animal or environmental health must be accompanied by an instruction manual, in French and English, with easily visible warnings to enable normal use in conditions of maximum safety.
The sale of unpackaged food products, with the exception of local produce, is prohibited.
The packaging of any product sold must comply with the standard on the labelling of pre-packaged foodstuffs in Cameroon.
The granting of patents, trademarks, copyrights, service marks, authorizations, permits or any other documents issued by the competent authorities to producers or suppliers of goods, technologies or services in no way exempts beneficiaries from liability for damage actually caused to consumers and which is attributable to them or to other participants in the chain of distribution of dangerous goods.
