Technical formalities are very important for an importer in Cameroon. The scope of technical formalities for import in Cameroon are with regards to Phytosanitary, Sanitary, Quality, Health control etc.
All importers must ensure that in respect of the nature of goods they import to Cameroon, they have to when drawing up import declarations to SGS, have their pro-forma invoice issued by the Phytosanitary and other technical services to ensure that the desired import will not pose any technical or regulatory problems on arrival in Cameroon.
Once the product has been delivered to the Douala Port, the operator or his representative must submit his goods to the inspection procedure whatever its custom status. This product is submitted to the relevant department in charge of regulating such product at the phytosanitary unit of the Single Window for Foreign Trade Operations alongside a technical file and a GUCE follow-up sheet. This approach is applicable to all goods under the GUCE regulations and Phytosanitary Unit.
Depending on the regulations for the particular product in question, goods may undergo the following technical inspections:
- Phytosanitary formalities;
- Sanitary formalities;
- Formalities relating to animal products; and
- Environmental formalities etc.
