An NGO in Cameroon is governed by its constitution or Bylaws and the legislation in force in the Republic. This therefore means that there are mandatory clauses in the bylaws to register an NGO in Cameroon which is evident in all properly drafted and executed constitutions.
In this regard, we shall look at those clauses which are fundamental to the acceptance of the application for the grant of an authorization for an NGO or Association in Cameroon.
MANDATORY CLAUSES IN REGISTERING AN NGO IN CAMEROON
- Name, Logo and Status Clause: This clause provides for the name, logo and status of the Organization.
- Organization Clause: This clause provides for the nature the NGO will exist and be organized.
- Objectives Clause: this clause provides for the activities in which the organization will function.
- Income and Property Clause: This clause provides for the manner in which the NGO will manage its income and assets during its existence.
- Membership Clause: This clause provides the manner in which person will become members for the NGO.
- Meetings Clause: This clause provides the manner in which meetings will be organized by the NGO.
- Management Clause: This clause provides for the manner in which the organization will be managed.
- Authority Clause: This clause provides the foundation upon which the management get its authority to function.
- Procedure of the Committee Clause: This clause deals with the procedure through which committees may be seized to handle crucial matters for the NGO.
- Finance Clause: This clause deals with the management of finances and accounts of the NGO.
- Loss of membership Clause: This clause handles all aspects in which membership can be lost in the NGO.
- Duration/lifespan Clause: This clause deals with the duration the NGO is intended to exist legally.
- Assets Clause: This clause regulates the manner in which the assets of the NGO will be managed and disposed of in application of the legislation in force.
- Jurisdiction Clause: This clause regulates the scope of territorial functioning of an NGO in Cameroon.
- Functions of Officers Clause: This clause deals with the functions of the different offices of the executive bureau of the NGO in Cameroon.
- Adhoc Committee Clause: This clause deals with the set up of committees to handle emergency matters for an NGO.
- Modification of the Constitution Clause: This clause deals with any changes that may occur in the already established and registered NGO constitution in Cameroon.
